If She Sees follows Amie Donathan, a determined amputee football player and biomedical engineering student, as she leads a global campaign to include amputee football in the 2028 Paralympics. Her mantra, “WOW, not Aww”, captures the film’s heartbeat, challenging perceptions of disability while celebrating the power of sport to inspire resilience and break barriers.
Through Amie’s personal journey, we witness her balancing athletic ambition, academic rigor, and relentless advocacy. Amie isn’t only a player but a leader. With her family’s support she has been building networks of female amputee players, mobilising communities worldwide, and confronting cultural stigma and systemic inequities.
The documentary combines dynamic match sequences, intimate personal moments, and a global perspective, taking us from under-resourced communities where the game thrives on little more than crutches and a ball, to regions shaped by war, such as Ukraine, where football can offer healing and solidarity. Alongside Amie, we meet fellow athletes, coaches, and advocates whose lives embody the sport’s transformative spirit.
As the Paralympic deadline approaches, tension builds around whether amputee football will be recognised on the world stage. But regardless of the outcome, If She Sees is a story of resilience, equity, and empowerment. An uplifting call to reimagine what is possible when communities unite through sport.

If She Sees follows Amie Donathan as she campaigns to bring amputee football to the 2028 Paralympics. Guided by her mantra, “WOW, not Aww,” Amie challenges perceptions of disability while demonstrating the power of sport to inspire resilience, break barriers, and foster inclusion. Her journey blends athletic ambition, academic drive, and global advocacy, showing how one individual can spark meaningful systemic change.
We meet Amie in her everyday life - training, studying, and planning long-term initiatives - revealing her determination, focus, and charisma. Archival footage and intimate interviews trace her early love of sport and some of the circumstances surrounding her limb difference. These moments establish her not only as an elite athlete but as a natural leader, while setting the stakes of her mission: to secure amputee football on the Paralympic stage.
The narrative expands to encompass the global amputee football community, where players persevere despite cultural stigma, limited resources, and systemic inequities. From grassroots clubs to regions affected by conflict, football emerges as both refuge and catalyst for empowerment. Amie navigates bureaucratic obstacles and builds international networks, amplifying the resilience of athletes (particularly women) who strive for recognition. Alongside her personal journey, these stories highlight the power of community, showing how sport can foster solidarity, healing, and inclusion across borders.
As the 2028 Paralympic deadline approaches, tension rises. Training camps, international competitions, and advocacy collide with Amie’s personal growth, heightening the stakes for both her and the sport. Whether or not amputee football achieves official recognition, her journey culminates in a story of courage, determination, and the redefinition of what is possible through collective action.
The film’s visual approach blends high-energy match sequences with intimate handheld moments, supported by over a decade of archival footage. Interviews with Amie, her family, teammates, and global advocates provide context, depth, and authenticity, grounding the narrative in lived experience while giving it universal resonance.
At its core, If She Sees is a story of resilience, equity, and empowerment. It is an intimate, cinematic portrait of an athlete whose vision has the power to transform not just a sport, but the way the world perceives disability and possibility.
