Gabrielle Deeny

I have an extensive background in factual television (BBC and Rare TV), but ever since my Bachelor's degree graduate project was nominated for an RDS Visual Art Award I have been drawn to directing short films and documentaries. After my undergrad, I went on to graduate with a master's in Film from Queen's University, Belfast. During my master's, I wrote and directed a mockumentary called Family Spirit that got into numerous film festivals and won best screenplay at the Dublin University Film Festival.

Following that, I directed my first funded documentary for the BBC 2-minute Masterpiece in 2018. The piece, entitled “And You Asked Me”, tells the real story of a couple who met in the dance halls of 1960s Belfast.

I am currently directing a Northern Ireland Screen-funded short through the New Shorts Focus Scheme. The comedy film, "Life Ruiner" is now in post-production with Poli Productions and will start its festival run soon.
