Euro-Children is an award-winning short documentary directed, produced, and co-edited by Áindréas Fallon Verbruggen as part of his BA in Television Production at IADT. The film explores the Euro-Children Holiday Scheme, a little-known initiative that operated during the Troubles in Northern Ireland, offering children affected by sectarian violence the opportunity to spend their summers with host families across Europe.

Forty years later, the documentary reconnects former participants with the families who once welcomed them, tracing the lasting emotional impact of those experiences across generations and borders. Combining intimate interviews, archival material, and evocative visual storytelling, Euro-Children reflects on themes of refuge, belonging, memory, and generational trauma.

The film was shot by cinematographer Tomás Farrelly and edited by Fallon Verbruggen alongside Orla Engstfeld, with original music by Caela Murphy and sound design by Manus Graham.

Since its release, Euro-Children has received significant recognition on the festival circuit, including the National Student Award at the Catalyst International Film Festival, Best Documentary in the “On The Pulse” strand at the Cinemagic Film Festival, and Factual Long Form at the Royal Television Society Ireland Student Awards.
